Christmas Party 2010 – the 140 children and babies cared for at the crèche went on an outing to Rietvlei Farmin Brackenhurst. As part of the outing the children had a tour around the farm and saw ducks, hens, chickens, guinea pigs and rabbits and goats roaming freely. The children had fun chasing the ingulube (Zulu for pigs) until the pigs started to chase them! They had an outdoor picnic of HUGE Boerewors sausage rolls and drinks under the gazebos that had been provided to keep everyone out of the rain shower. The older children, (who graduate from DNCC this year), danced for the sponsors and delivered a speech in their graduation cloaks to thank them. All made possible through the fundraising activities
Doornkop first visit to the zoo in 2009 – For many of the children the trip to the zoo was the first time they had left their hometown of Soweto and seen live animals. Following a tour around the zoo, the children enjoyed burgers from the braai (or barbeque) provided by ‘South Africa – The Good News’. The day ended with a performance from the children of ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’ followed by a traditional African Dance. The trip was a great success as it was fun and educational for all the children.
